TaChelle

MEET

Having been the “only” woman or Black person in the room, TaChelle Lawson has firsthand experience of intersectionality in the workplace. Being the only woman and being the only Black person (or even POC) in the room can be intimidating, especially when it comes to business. After 20+ years of experience in the hospitality industry working with brands such as Heineken, Coca-Cola, Hermes, Louis Vuitton, Red Bull, Nespresso, and Mercedes-Benz and being the Founder and President of FIG Strategy & Consulting, TaChelle understands the importance of showing confidence in all situations.

TaChelle credits her confidence to her strong upbringing, being her only ally, and natural tenacity. She began working at the age of 14 and held various leadership positions throughout her corporate career. At 30 she was passed up for a promotion and told “you’re as far as you can go.” TaChelle decided that was an unacceptable answer and resigned a month later, determined that she would be the only one to decide her future.

After years of numerous women commenting on her straight to the point confidence, she embraced her entrepreneurial spirit and strong business experience to start Unapologetically Confident (a confidence coaching company) to help women address their lack of confidence in business relationships. Whether your goal is to improve your public speaking skills, dismantle imposter syndrome, negotiate for capital confidently, or improve confidence in your leadership ability, TaChelle can help.

Are you ready?

Q&A with TaChelle

HOW MANY PAIRS OF SHOES DO YOU OWN?

I lost count at 80. But I’m certain I have well over 100 considering I have 15 pairs of boots underneath my bed.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE BOOK?

Ways of Warriors, Codes of Kings is my favorite book on leadership. There's a tremendous amount of wisdom and honesty shared in small doses. It focuses on the importance of strategy and harmony, which I relate to personally and professionally. Boundaries by Dr. Henry cloud and Dr. John Townsend is a close second. I first read it at a time where I needed to establish boundaries between work, family and life and it was so spot on. But I’m an avid reader, so my favorite book is whatever I’m reading at the time and it's usually a book on leadership, strategy or professional development.

WHAT PIECE OF ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE YOURSELF AT THE BEGINNING OF YOUR CAREER?

Don't try to be everything to everyone, find your niche and invest in perfecting it.

WHAT ARE YOU FAVORITE VACATION SPOTS?

For a quick getaway, my got to is Cabo San Lucas and Palm Springs. I love to lay by the beach, or at the very least by a pool with a book, and have cocktails brought to me all day.

WHAT BEHAVIOR OR PERSONALITY TRAIT DO YOU MOST ATTRIBUTE YOUR SUCCESS TO, AND WHY?

Confidence. Hands down. The belief that I can do anything I set my mind to. It has been the difference between giving up and going hard. Being an entrepreneur can be difficult and very lonely which leaves room for self-doubt. If I didn’t have the confidence I have, I certainly wouldn’t have made it this far.
